What is the Youth Religious Emblem Knot
The Youth Religious Emblem Knot is one of the most meaningful awards a Cub Scout can earn. It represents a Scout’s personal journey of faith, reverence, and commitment to the values of the Scout Law's final decree: A Scout is Reverent. Unlike most other awards, this knot can be worn throughout a Scout’s entire journey—from Cub Scouts to adulthood as a leader—making it a lifelong symbol of spiritual growth.
Scouts earn this recognition by completing a religious emblem program specific to their faith tradition, often guided by parents or mentors in their community. Our Pack honors this accomplishment with a ceremony designed to celebrate each Scout’s achievement in a meaningful and inclusive way. While Cub Scouts (and Scouts and Venturers) can earn many Religious Emblems, they can only receive the Youth Religious Emblem knot once.
Why Recognize Scouts?
Advancement is one of the methods of Scouting and includes recognizing a Scout’s achievements, including earning a religious emblem. Celebrating this achievement reinforces this value while giving the Scout and their family a moment of pride and celebration. A well-planned ceremony:
Celebrates spiritual growth and commitment to faith.
Encourages other Scouts to pursue their own religious emblems.
Strengthens the bond between Scouting, families, and the wider community.
Our ceremonies are designed to be interfaith, welcoming all Scouts and families, while allowing personal touches from each Scout’s faith tradition.
