Cub Scouts 101
Pack 1402 welcomes boys and girls in grades K-5.
By welcoming all youth into the program, more youth will have access to the character development and values-based leadership that Scouting delivers, making more youth better prepared for future success.
Cub Scouts Belong to Packs and Dens
As a Cub Scout, you will be part of our Pack. The Pack is divided into smaller groups called Dens. Each Den has about six to ten boys and/or girls. All of the Cub Scouts in your Den are in the same grade and some may even go to the same school. Den meetings focus on completing the advancement requirement adventures for each rank badge:
Kindergarteners = Lions
1st Graders = Tigers
2nd Graders = Wolves
3rd Graders = Bears
4th Graders = Webelos (short for We’ll Be Loyal Scouts)
5th Graders = Arrows of Light
Cub Scouts Do Things and Go Places
Cub Scouting means "doing." You have lots to do as a Cub Scout—crafts, games, sports, songs, stories, and puzzles, to name a few things. Much of the fun happens right in the den and pack. The den usually meets every 2 weeks, and the pack meets once a month all year long. At den meetings and pack meetings, Cub Scouts do different things for fun and learning.
Cub Scouts also go to events like the annual blue and gold banquet, field contests, and derbies such as the pinewood derby. They go on field trips. They go camping and have other kinds of outdoor adventures. They take part in community events. Cub Scouts do all sorts of exciting stuff! Whatever it is that you enjoy, you'll have a chance to do it in Cub Scouting.
Cub Scouts Have Fun with Friends
Our pack is filled with friends, old and new, from all around the Sienna neighborhood. If you attend Scanlan Oaks Elementary or Donald Leonetti you are likely to see a freindly face.
Cub Scouting Has a Purpose
The magic of Cub Scouting is that it is a game with a purpose. What may seem like a silly activity is often a method used to teach one of the core aims of Scouting.
Cub Scouting aims to accomplish 4 areas of growth and development of every youth
Character
Citizenship
Personal Fitness
Leadership
Cub Scouting primarily uses the following methods to complete these aims
The Den
Family Involvement
Serving the Neighborhood
The Uniform
