Catholic Scouting
Catholic Cub Scouts have the opportunity to grow in their faith by earning both Religious Emblems and Catholic Activity Patches.
What to Expect
Each Religious Emblem activity book is designed to help your Cub Scout explore their faith in an age-appropriate, engaging way. The books are structured around short lessons, reflections, and hands-on activities that build a stronger understanding of Catholic beliefs and values.
Here’s what you can generally expect inside:
Short Readings and Stories – Focused on teachings of Jesus, the Sacraments, prayer, and how we live out our faith.
Family Discussions – Prompts that help your Scout talk with you about what they’ve learned and how it applies to daily life.
Faith-in-Action Activities – Simple service projects, prayer experiences, or creative tasks that connect faith to real-world actions.
Scripture Reflections – Opportunities to read and reflect on selected Bible passages in a child-friendly format.
Progress Checkpoints – Small moments for your Scout to think about what they’re learning and how it’s shaping their understanding of God and the Church.
You don’t need to be an expert to support your Scout—just a willing guide and conversation partner. Most families complete the program at home over a few months, working about 30 minutes per week.
How to Get Started
Religious Emblems
To begin working on a Religious Emblem, purchase the appropriate activity book from either the Scout Shop or the National Catholic Committee on Scouting (NCCS). Once the book is complete, contact the Religious Emblems Coordinator at Pack 1828, Jason Thekkekara, at jgt0287@hotmail.com. He will schedule you an interview with one of the deacons at St. Laurence sometime in December/January with presentation in March.
Afterward, please contact the Pack Religious Emblems Coordinator (REC) here at Pack 1402 to arrange the presentation of the religious emblem knot at one of our biannual Pack ceremonies.

Patches
Catholic Activity Patches are a fun and flexible way to learn about Catholic role models, the Rosary, the Saints, and more. Information and requirements are available for free from the NCCS website.
These patches are open to Scouts of all ages. Requirements scale with age, so younger Cub Scouts will have fewer tasks than older Scouts, but the core theme remains the same. Once the activities are complete, a parent, guardian, or Scout leader can review the work and sign off. Any of those individuals may then order the patch directly from NCCS.Â
